Yes, a very good reason: it takes up significanly more kernel memory. Kernel memory is non-pageable, so it becomes totally unavailable to userspace. Which means that the memory-strapped player software will have even less to work with.

Not an issue on my 32MB players, and not a really bad issue on my v2.0x equipped Mk2a players, but for anyone running v3 software and/or a Mk2 player (12MB instead of 16MB), that memory is NEEDED for other stuff.
