Would a possible worst-case scenario be Ravel's "Bolero" with what amounts to a 15-minute long crescendo?

What adjustments would your algorithm make in this instance? If the entire piece were played at the same effective volume level (single flute intro as loud as the whole orchestra with brass section in the closing bars?) I'm afraid you would lose much of the effectiveness of the piece.

On the other hand, it would be nice to actually be able to hear that flute intro sometime when I am driving the car.... Same thing could be said for the trumpet intro in Prokofiev's "Lt. Kije Suite".

Reading threads like this one reinforces my appreciation for what a terrifically great group of people we have on this bbs! I wonder if it would be possible once the Mark II hordes begin their onslaught to require potential new bbs registrants to pass some sort of test to verify their technical acuity before being allowed to post to the board. What, elitist? Who? Me? ;-)
