I'm beginning to think that the ethernet chip may have been okay. Notice that in my bootlogs up until I started lifting pins, that the ethernet chip is recognized whereas the bootlogs with the bad ethernet chips say "smc_init couldn't find card" near the end of the log. It wasn't until I disabled the pins that this couldn't find card message appeared.

Why if all 16 bits (which seem to be needed to avoid the couldn't find card message)were functional for the ethernet chip did the IDE bus not work? I've verifed that all bits of the bus are connected to the header and tried multiple drives that have been tested good.
