So I've decided to stick with the spare drives they already had. But I have one more question that I can't seem to find the answer to: can I reconfigure the RAID without restarting the server and still give users access to their data during the configuration?

I found this page that talks about OCE being possible, which is great as I will also be expanding the storage at the same time. But while it appears that "RLM" is also possible to do live, I don't want to assume anything.

I successfully added one of the 1TB drives and it's just waiting for me to do something with it.

The controller is a Perc H310, if that helps. I'm trying to reconfigure a RAID 1 with two 1TB disks into a RAID 5 with 3 1TB disks. At least 2TB is better than 1TB. *shrug*
