I was wondering the same thing. You'd think that one of the benefits of doing a redundant array is so that you can expand it, and that'd be a supported feature of the controller and its management software. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of flaky gear out there, so I'm not surprised that we all have trust issues with computer hardware, especially old hardware.
