My risk is less than you suggest. My backups cover at least 10 years of data, perhaps more, but with my local external drives and my off-site external drives, I am only in danger of losing the most recent data, data added since the last backup, usually only about a week previous. Worst case scenario (house burns down taking my computer and backups with it) then I am at risk for the past two or three months of data, not pleasant but as you said, "my life won't be over..."

In any case, as I stood in the smoking ruins of what had been my house, my first thoughts probably wouldn't be about those books for my Kindle I downloaded last week. smile
