Taym, I also agreed with the earlier points you made, especially those touching of Fitts' law. Incidentally, I never used the word "better" to describe the start menu. In terms of quick navigation and ease of targeting, top or bottom corner are both very intuitive and potentially work equally well. However, in terms of consistency and building a system paradigm, the start menu at the bottom just doesn't fit (no pun intended).
