I do have some 128 encoded mp3s, but haven't had any difficulties with those either.

hmmm.... after listening to about 4 (somewhere around there anyway) 128kbps files IN A ROW I first get drop outs and a couple seconds later the player is no longer responsive. Of course I only noticed this when those were the only files loaded on the player so take it for what it's worth.
