have already deduced it doesn't come off and tested it fully, both the ribbon itself and board to board, no broken wires.

not sure it's relevent but, its running V.0.95.1 (beta 12d)
ser No. is 080000166 (4/8/00).

remote works fine on later model, but not this, nor does the standby light flash?

otherwise it's working as it should, excepting the other connection issue.
