Who said those were the only two options. Individual plans as we know them -- open only to healthy people -- will end. In their place will be plans where anyone must be allowed to join, and pay the same premiums regardless of health. Insurance companies will be able to offer these plans, and perhaps the government will operate one which must have premiums matching expenses eventually.

UPS and FedEx compete every day with the post office, and win hands down. The DMV in California is plenty efficient to communicate with by mail, lets you make appointments online, and if it weren't for our obstructionist minority party, would be operating just fine. Our military seems to operate just fine though it's never seen the need to try and cut costs as it's always fully funded.
