Can we stop saying that the solution to a Windows problem is "switch to OSX/Linux/whatever?" It's not very helpful. Besides, please don't tell me that OSX is completely free of bouts of strange behavior.

Doug, trying out safe mode would be my first suggestion, and will tell you a lot. In case you're not sure how to do it, the process is different in Windows 10. This site has good descriptions of the ways to do it.

The easiest method is to hold down the shift key while you reboot, but you have to navigate through their crazy recovery menus, then reboot again for some reason, and it's just annoying. The msconfig method is probably the most reliable, and lets you choose your boot options in advance. I would try minimal first.
