Connected directly to the modem, any CPU (or at least, my CPU and SWMBO's iMac) will work. Throw the router into the mix, and things go badly.

I am going to do the factory reset now, which may cut me off from you guys for days until I can get my settings reinstalled. If I survive that and it still doesn't work right, I'll reinstall the firmware. After that, if still no joy, then I'll buy a new modem.
