Do you really think this is limited to Republicans? Because I've been subjected to many "dirty word" terms against my own points of view. I think sometimes we use such words as shorthand to (what we think) is a well established point of view, and then it morphs into an insult (or rally word) over time.

But this isn't just Republicans. It seems to happen in just about any discourse over which there is some contention. It is human nature for arguments to devolve into "You're just a stupidhead"
